OPEN BURNING ALLOWED BY PERMIT ONLY FROM 1 APRIL TO 30 JUNE AND 1 OCTOBER TO 31 OCTOBER
THERE IS NO OPEN BURNING ALLOWED IN JULY, AUGUST and SEPTEMBER.
You may apply for an Open Burning Permit online, by filling out the form at GVFD.ca/burning-permits/. Open burning is allowed without a permit between November 1st and March 31st (at chief's discretion). A "burning permit" is required from April 1st to June 30th and October 1st to October 31st.
Category 3 fires: >3 m in diameter and/or > 2 m high and/or machine-piled, require BCWS Registration and strict adherence to Venting Index Requirements of the BC Open Burning Smoke Control Regulation.
Burning permits will not be issued while the Fire Danger Rating is at HIGH or EXTREME

Contravening these regulations may result in an up to $500 fine as outlined in Schedule 33 of CRD Bylaw 1857 - Ticket Authorization.
Open burning must also conform to BC's Open Burning Smoke Control Regulation. Burning of yard waste up to 10cm (4") in diameter is exempt from the requirements. All other burning must conform to the Venting Index Requirements. North Galiano is in the Medium Smoke Sensitivity Zone.
